The Yellow Rose of Texas

Across the "Dogtrot" dining hall you will gaze upon an antique quilt, tastefully draped through a massive wreath. The queen-size bed (called Paul Bunyan) has feather mattress toppers, soft sheets and comfortable feather pillows. The theme in this room is "Everything's coming up Rosy." A Ralph Lauren rose pattern comforter, red checked curtains, plaid table skirt and other complementary mixes of fabric add interest to the butter yellow walls. The what knot shelf is was made by Miss McCardell's brother Doug. It was constructed from wooden thread spools. It was found in the old smokehouse and refinished for this room.

This bathtub originally sat in the room off the back porch. After two chilling baths out there, Ms. Miller moved it into one of the bedroom baths. Then came the Birds Eye Maple chest-of-drawers which was purchased in 1970 from the old Leggett House. The Leggett House was one of the first "kit houses" in Livingston. It came up the Trinity River on a steamboat and was assembled on the lot west of the Polk County Courthouse. If you open the closet in this bathroom you will see the original wallpaper at the top of the walls.
