Dining at the Cottage

The dining room is a warm and inviting area whether you are interested in eating or socializing. Southern style hospitality is the theme for breakfast that will be "fit for a king". Eleven-foot ceilings, wide door facings, and transoms above the doors remind us of homes during our grandparents' days. The dining room wood floor is recycled Cyprus from the riverboat Dr. McCardell purchased to build his home. The dining room furniture is Paul Bunyan in style. The massive chairs are upholstered in fabric which coordinates well with the red Victorian Bedroom located just behind the French doors. Your senses will be excited when you smell your morning coffee brewing near where the original electric coffee pot owned and used by Miss McCardell herself still sits. The original owner's manual is still by the coffee pot.

Dining will be a pleasant experience seated at the immense table with a red rug under your feet. Over the table, a large picture of roses hangs, its frame trimmed in gold, characteristic of the Victorian era when gold was used to reflect light in dark rooms. Adjacent walls display paintings of children in Victorian attire. Antique linens and gold flatware add the complete setting to this dining experience. One last reminder of days gone by is the unique door bell, original to the home. It is located at the front door which opens into the dining room. The doorbell must be twisted and then its nostalgic ringer will be heard.
