McCardell Cottage was considered by the folks of Livingston to be the hub of the
Livingston, Texas community. Built by Dr. McCardell
in 1887, it served as the community's medical facility, and because of its location and the families' love of "the finer things of life" the house was used for the cultural and social events of town. Dr. McCardell willed his home to his daughter, Ethel, who lived there until her death at age 94. Ethel taught first grade at the school which was located across the street.
The McCardell family and descendants were the sole occupants of the home until 1996, when the property was purchased by Beverly Miller, another native of Livingston. As a young child attending school across the street from the McCardell home, Ms. Miller would dream of living in the home which looked so quaint and inviting. The dream became a reality for Ms. Miller in 1996 when she began a five-year renovation and revitalization of the cottage. Ms. Miller taught young children for many years and feels a strong desire to share this lovely home and the delightful
anecdotes about its history.
McCardell Cottage
